Tryouts
KC Wildcats holds annual tryouts each fall to form teams for the winter season.
Players are evaluated based on effort, skill, attitude, and overall fit within a team.
-
We don't evaluate players on highlight plays or raw athleticism alone. Every athlete is assessed across four areas — our SAGE standards:
Skill Can you execute fundamentals with proper technique? Do you understand the game? Can you apply what you're coached in real time?
Attitude How do you respond to feedback? Do you encourage teammates? What does your body language say when things aren't going your way?
Growth Are you better than you were? Do you respond to correction? Do you embrace the work even when it's uncomfortable?
Effort Are you going full speed in every drill? Are you engaged when you're not the one with the ball? Do you compete on every possession?
-
Evaluations are held over one or more sessions. Coaches observe athletes in drills, scrimmages, and situational play. We also consider basketball background — prior KC Wildcats participation, rec leagues, 3v3, and camp experience.
Roster offers are typically issued within one week of the final evaluation session.
There are no guaranteed spots. Every athlete — returning or new — goes through the same evaluation process.
